The Xinying Lateral Canal passes through the prime central area of Xinying District, connecting key political, cultural, educational, hospital, and recreational points from east to west, and linking the old and new urban areas through streets from north to south. This makes the Xinying Lateral Canal a main corridor for daily life and leisure for residents. Improvements were made in phases during the 2000, 2003, and 2004 fiscal years, with the design focusing on both water conveyance and ecological greening. Interlocking bricks were laid on the tops of both banks, where trees, shrubs, grass, and various flowers were planted, creating a pleasant environment for strolling during the morning and evening, accompanied by the sights of flowing water and the sounds of birds and insects.
