The Zengwen River Aqueduct was constructed in 1929 during the Japanese occupation to allow irrigation water from the Chianan Canal to cross the Zengwen River. Water flowed through the lower part of the aqueduct, while the upper deck was used for pedestrian passage.

The old aqueduct has since been retired and designated as a historic site. It has been replaced by a new aqueduct bridge, designed with a blue pheasant-tailed jacana wing shape.

The new aqueduct was completed in November 2014. It features a box-shaped water conveyance channel with a cross-section 4 meters wide by 3 meters high and a total length of approximately 485 meters. The southern end is in Shanhua District, Tainan City, and the northern end is in Guantian District, Tainan City. The completion of the new aqueduct ensures the water conveyance functionality of the Chianan Canal main line, benefiting over 8,900 hectares of farmland. It also secures the public water supply for 1.5 million people in the Tainan area, as well as industrial water supply for the Southern Taiwan Science Park.
