The No. 4 Sluice Gate on the South Lateral Canal consists of two gates, each measuring 2.00 meters wide by 1.60 meters high. The gates are constructed of stainless steel and use a motorized screw-type transmission mechanism. During non-irrigation periods, the No. 4 Sluice Gate raises the water level of the South Lateral Canal to facilitate water intake for the raw water supply to the Tanding Water Treatment Plant and industrial water supply for Uni-President Enterprises. During irrigation periods, it also functions to regulate and store irrigation water for the downstream Xinhua and Xishi Work Stations.
Within the Xinshi Station jurisdiction, the Xinshi Sub-lateral Canal and South Lateral Canal provide direct irrigation water to the Sheziding, South Xinshi, Shenei, and Dazhou irrigation groups, benefiting an irrigated area of approximately 406 hectares.
